Preventing a problem, before it becomes a problem, is generally the best approach to treatment. Some of these options we already know about… Rogaine®, by Pfizer, (available for men and women) is a topical “hair re-growth treatment.” Its active ingredient is Minoxidil – a vaso-dilator. In essence, Minoxidil increases the blood flow to hair follicles in the scalp in hopes of reversing the genetic thinning process taking place within the individual hair follicles, resulting in thicker strands of hair. Propecia® (Finasteride), by Merck, (available for men only) is a one-pill-a-day, prescription “DHT-blocker.” If taken daily, it is designed to halt or slow-down the genetic process causing hair thinning and loss by blocking the DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) that is attaching itself to hair follicles pre-disposed to its thinning effects.
